Brian Griffin
A native of Bellingham, Brian is desribed as a writer, amateur entomologist, painter, woodworker, winemaker, public speaker, and organizer of public-private partnerships. “I retired so I could do the many interesting things I wanted to do,” Brian says.
While exporing his hobby of entomology and wild native bees, he discovered a population of what he learned were Orchard Mason bees in his back yard and turned that discovery into Knox Cellars Bees.
He took up watercolor painting 20 years ago and occasionally sells his work at local art shows. He fits in his woodworking hobby when he isn’t busy with community activities.
One of his community efforts resulted in Fairhaven Village Green in the Fairhaven Historic District of Bellingham, Washington. Another, Depot Market Square is a city-owned Farmers Market and public meeting place.
Brian published a history book about another public-private partnership that helped create Boulevard Park, a waterfront park in Bellingham. That book, Boulevard Park & Taylor Avenue Dock on the Old Bellingham Waterfront was published in 2007 by Knox Cellars Publishing Company.
"My Darling Anna - Letters from Fairhaven 1890" is Brian's latest history book which was published in late 2009 with co-author Neelie Nelson. He is currently working on another history book simply titled "Fairhaven."
The Brian Griffin Oral Histories Series, is another project that adds to the wealth of information about the history of Bellingham. Brian has spent several years reording the life histories of significant people in the community and continues to add to an ever-growing list of oral history DVDs.
Recently Brian added the title of "Luthier" to his long resume, with his new-found passion for creating ukeleles.
